Ties among generations

"Ties among generations" is the project which "Altera" conduct annually in the spring and autumn.

Have you ever peered into old people faces? Have you ever talked heart to heart to your own grandmother and grandfather? Try to look at those old-fashioned people on your way to institute tomorrow, remember their faces.

Together with us you can go to lonely old people, bring them joy and help with housework. The most simple things — windows washing, carpet cleaning, etc — often become an excessive problem for them. You can help!

The purposes of the project:

• To destroy barriers between generations
• To help young people to have close relations with grannys
• To treat them as own grandmothers and grandfathers.

The project started in the autumn of 2002 as one-week help to the lonely aged people, dated by Day of the elderly people. At cooperation with the local "Center of social help" our volunteers were visiting lonely grandmothers and grandfathers and helping them. At the end of the week there was a party which gathered together people of different age and background. Old people were pleased by a concert which was prepared for them by schoolboys and students.

Thus, having begun in the autumn of 2002, the project became regular. In the spring and in the autumn it gathers together volunteers to help lonely old people. It will go on!

In this year (2005) our volunteers visited veterans of World War II who live in the deep within of Minsk area. They were helping in village housework, cleaning houses, having a lovely conversations, sharing feelings regarding war, peace and human being.
